Manager 101 - Build trust and credibility as a new manager
As I have started to welcome the first engineering managers of my team in the company that I joined a few months ago, I've written a little guidance in our Notion wiki to help them know what to do when they arrive, and this could interest you if you plan to come as a manager in a new team.
Most of the time, our new engineering managers join an existing team I was managing beforehand in ad interim. So they have to integrate into a working group of people, first challenge, then be able to improve the way of working of their new team in the long term.
What do you have to get from others when you want to join an existing group and then be able to propose new ideas and be listened to? Trust
What do you need to be listened to when you propose new ideas? Credibility
How do you build trust and credibility? To me, it's 90% about your behavior and 10% about your technical skills.
